Lehre international: Flucht, Klima und Soziale Arbeit

Im Rahmen des International Study Programme (ISP) war Ass. Prof. Dr. Luqman Saleh Karim von der University of Sulaimani (Kurdistan-Irak) vom 15.4.23 bis zum 23.4.23 zu Gast an der EvH, um erneut gemeinsam mit Prof.in Dr. Cinur Ghaderi zu lehren. Inhaltlich ging es um „Social Work with Refugees and Internally Displaced Peoples – Examples from the Global Context“ mit Einbezug der Folgen der Klima- und Umweltkrise als Fluchtursache, die neben Kriegen und bewaffneten Konflikte als Hauptursache eine immer bedeutendere Rolle einnehmen. Auch die Praxis der Arbeit mit Geflüchteten war Thema, sodass ein Besuch der Medizinischen Flüchtlingshilfe Bochum mit Karen Bossow (International Office der EvH) und Maria Fechter (MFH Bochum) unternommen wurde.
 
Die Kooperation mit der University of Sulaimani besteht seit nunmehr fast acht Jahren und wurde im Rahmen der Kooperation im Dokumentarfilm „Coming Together for Acquiring Knowledge“ festgehalten. Das Thema dekoloniale Wissensproduktion ist weiterhin eines der zentralen Themen der Kooperation. Am Dienstag den 18.04.23 hielt Ass. Prof. Dr. Luqman Saleh Karim, der Mitbegründer und Direktor des Mastura Instituts für angewandte Wissenschaft in der psychosozialen Arbeit in Kurdistan-Irak ist, an der EvH für Masterstudierende des Studiengangs „Soziale Inklusion: Gesundheit und Bildung“ einen Vortrag zum Thema „Decolonizing Psychosocial Work from Local Perspective”, dem sich eine spannende Diskussion mit den Studierenden anschloss.

Dekoloniale Wissensperspektiven implizieren einen internationalen Dialog über global relevante und verflochtene Themen. Einen gewichtigen Beitrag gab es dazu auch am 19.04.23 von Prof. Dr. Marichen van Westhuizen, University of the Western Cape (UWC) zum Thema „The Global Agenda for Social Work and how it Relates to Work with Refugees and Climate Change". In einer hybriden Veranstaltung diskutierenden Lehrende und Studierende der EvH, der UWC und der University of Sulaimani, z.B. darüber, wie das Wissen um die Zusammenhänge von Umweltgerechtigkeit als eine Form der sozialen Gerechtigkeit, breiter vermittelt werden kann und wie tatsächlich Menschen geschützt und durch Sozialarbeitende unterstützt werden können, die aufgrund der von Klimakrisen flüchten müssen.

Teaching Internationally: Flight, Climate and Social Work

As part of the International Study Programme (ISP), Ass. Prof. Dr. Luqman Saleh Karim from the University of Sulaimani (Kurdistan-Iraq) was once again a guest at EvH from 15.4.23 to 23.4.23 to teach together with Prof. Dr. Cinur Ghaderi. The content was "Social Work with Refugees and Internally Displaced Peoples - Examples from the Global Context", including consequences of the climate and environmental crisis as causes of flight.  Along with wars and armed conflicts, climate change is taking on an increasingly important role as a primary cause. The seminar also addressed the practice of working with refugees and included a visit to the Medical Refugee Aid Bochum with Karen Bossow (International Office of EvH) and Maria Fechter (MFH Bochum). Prof. Luqman furthermore participated in a seminar by Prof. Dr. Kristin Sonnenberg and toured the Bochum Art Museum with Prof. Dr. Helene Skladny.

The cooperation with the University of Sulaimani has now existed for almost eight years and was presented in the documentary film "Coming Together for Acquiring Knowledge" as part of the cooperation. The theme of decolonial knowledge production continues to be one of the central themes of the cooperation. On Tuesday 18.04.2023, Ass. Prof. Dr. Luqman Saleh Karim, who is co-founder and director of the Mastura Institute for Applied Science in Psychosocial Work in Kurdistan-Iraq, gave a lecture on "Decolonizing Psychosocial Work from Local Perspective" at EvH for master students of the program "Social Inclusion: Health and Education", which was followed by an exciting discussion with the students.

Decolonizing perspectives on knowledge implies an international dialogue on globally relevant and intertwined issues. There was also an important contribution to this conversation by Prof. Dr. Marichen van Westhuizen, University of the Western Cape (UWC) on "The Global Agenda for Social Work and how it Relates to Work with Refugees and Climate Change" on 19.04.23. In a hybrid event, faculty and students from EvH, UWC and the University of Sulaimani discussed, for example, how knowledge of the connections between environmental justice as a form of social justice can be communicated more broadly and how people who have to flee due to climate crises can actually be protected and supported by social workers.
