Shortly after their 50th anniversary, the universities of applied sciences are important players in the research landscape. The particular strengths of research at universities of applied sciences lie in their application orientation as well as in their interdisciplinarity.

Research at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Rhineland Westphalia-Lippe relates directly to the practical and working fields of helping professions in the social and health care sector, church education work and diaconal work, as well as the corresponding policy fields such as social, family and health policy. With its research results, EvH RWL wants to contribute to an improvement in the living conditions of people in need of support and to the solution of important social problems.

The central role of teaching at the universities of applied sciences is not seen as an obstacle to research activities, but rather as an opportunity to closely link teaching and research.
